Yemeni Civil War
In short
The Yemeni Civil War is a long-running and violent conflict in the country of Yemen. It involves different local groups and several powerful countries from around the world.
In plain words
The war started because different groups in Yemen could not agree on who should lead the country. A group called the Houthis took control of much of the north, while the official government was pushed out. This led to a massive fight where other countries, like Saudi Arabia, stepped in to help the government, while others supported the Houthis. Because of the fighting, many people in Yemen do not have enough food, clean water, or medicine.
A simple example
Imagine a large school where two different groups of students both claim they should be in charge of the playground. Instead of talking it out, they start fighting, and then students from other schools join in to help their favourite side. Soon, the playground is so messy and dangerous that no one can play there anymore.
Why it matters
This war is important because it has caused one of the worst humanitarian crises in the world. Millions of people are suffering from hunger and sickness. It also matters to the rest of the world because the fighting happens near important sea routes used for global trade.
Easy to mix up
People sometimes confuse this war with other conflicts in the Middle East, such as the war in Syria. While both involve many different countries and cause great suffering, they are separate fights with different leaders and different reasons for starting.
