Who is Wayne Rooney?
In short
Wayne Rooney is a famous former professional footballer from England. He is widely considered one of the greatest players to ever play for Manchester United and the England national team.
In plain words

He started playing for professional clubs when he was very young and became a superstar at Manchester United, where he scored hundreds of goals.
A simple example
Imagine a player who can both score a long-distance goal and help his teammates by passing the ball perfectly. During a match, Rooney might win a tough tackle, sprint down the field, and then kick the ball hard into the net to score for his team.
Why it matters
He matters because he holds many records in English football. He was once the all-time top scorer for Manchester United and played in many important finals, including the Champions League and the European Championship. He is a symbol of passion and success in the sport.
Easy to mix up
People sometimes mix him up with other famous English strikers like Harry Kane or Wayne's former teammates. However, Rooney is unique because he was able to play many different roles on the pitch, not just as a goal scorer.
