Verfolgungsjagd
In short
A high-speed chase occurs when a person in a vehicle or on a vehicle attempts to flee from the police or a crowd. Recent incidents include a 22-year-old driving a stolen bus for 800 kilometres and football fans chasing a Lamine Yamal lookalike through London.
In plain words
It is a situation where someone tries to run away from authority or others by driving very fast. This often involves police cars, helicopters, and dangerous driving on roads.
A simple example
A man steals a bus to go on a date and drives 800 kilometres while being chased by the police.
Why it matters
These events are dangerous because they can cause serious accidents and injuries to the public. They also require significant police resources, such as helicopters and multiple units, to stop safely.
Easy to mix up
Do not confuse a police chase with a footrace or a competitive marathon.
