Tifon
In short
The Tifon 2a is a modernised main battle tank created through a partnership between Peru's DICSAC and Ukraine's Kharkiv Morozov Design Bureau. It upgrades the older Soviet T-54/55 chassis with contemporary combat technology.
In plain words
It is an old tank made new again. Engineers took a classic Soviet design and added modern tools like night vision and better targeting systems. This makes an ageing machine much more useful on a modern battlefield.
A simple example
A crew uses the built-in Buran thermal device to spot and track targets through darkness or smoke from up to 12 kilometres away.
Why it matters
It shows how countries can extend the life of existing military hardware without building entirely new vehicles from scratch. This provides a cost-effective way to upgrade older fleets with essential modern capabilities.
Easy to mix up
Do not confuse this vehicle with the Typhoon armoured fighting vehicle used by the Russian military.
