Rugby World Cup
In short
The Men's Rugby World Cup is an international rugby union tournament held every four years to determine the world champions.
What is happening
While the Rugby League World Cup is currently underway with the Kiwis playing the Kangaroos in Sydney, the Rugby Union World Cup is not the active tournament today. Spain has recently submitted a bid to host the 2035 Rugby World Cup, proposing venues such as the Nou Camp in Barcelona.
When
The next Rugby Union World Cup dates are not confirmed here, though Spain is bidding for the 2035 edition.
Why it matters
The tournament decides the top international rugby union team and awards the Webb Ellis Cup. It is the premier event for the sport governed by World Rugby.
Easy to mix up
It is often confused with the Rugby League World Cup, which is a different sport played under different rules.
