Regatul Unit
In short
The United Kingdom is a sovereign country located off the northwestern coast of mainland Europe. It currently faces significant security challenges from Russia, Iran, and artificial intelligence, according to MI5.
In plain words
It is a nation made up of several parts, including England, Scotland, Wales, and Northern Ireland. It is a major global power with its own intelligence services and complex diplomatic ties.
A simple example
Valerii Zaluzhnyi, the former commander of the Ukrainian Armed Forces, currently serves as Ukraine's ambassador to the United Kingdom.
Why it matters
As a key political and economic player, its security decisions and diplomatic stances affect global stability. Recent tensions involve its relationships with the USA and allies regarding Ukraine.
Easy to mix up
Do not confuse the United Kingdom with Great Britain, which refers only to the island containing England, Scotland, and Wales.
