Philately Passport
In short
A philately passport is a special booklet used by stamp collectors to collect unique postal cancellations from various locations. Recent demand in Karnataka saw 8,000 of these booklets sold in just two days.
In plain words
It is a souvenir book for hobbyists rather than a travel document. You visit different post offices to get special ink marks or stamps in the booklet to track your progress.
A simple example
A collector visits 100 different post offices to collect unique cancellations. Once the booklet is full, they may receive a special award or recognition.
Why it matters
It encourages people to visit different post offices and landmarks. It also turns the hobby of stamp collecting into an active, goal-oriented journey.
Easy to mix up
Do not confuse this with a standard government passport used for international travel and border crossing.
