Maya Wer Wird Millionar
In short
Maya Upmann is an 18-year-old highly gifted student who gained internet attention after failing early in a game of Who Wants to Be a Millionaire?
In plain words
She appeared on the German television quiz show but could not answer a question about an island in the Indian Ocean. Despite her high IQ, she struggled during the episode. She later spoke about the experience and how people reacted to her.
A simple example
Even though Maya has top grades in school, she failed to identify a well-known island during the quiz.
Why it matters
Her appearance sparked a debate about whether high intelligence always translates to general knowledge. It also highlighted how social media reacts to public mistakes.
Easy to mix up
Do not confuse her with Miriam Haus, another contestant who discussed her previous attempts on the same show.
