Loteria Nacional
In short
The Spanish state-owned company responsible for managing and marketing all national lotteries and gambling games in Spain. It operates under the Spanish Ministry of Finance.
In plain words
It is the official organisation that runs big lottery draws across Spain. They handle everything from daily games to the massive Christmas lottery. The money helps fund the state and various public interests.
A simple example
A person buys a ticket for the El Gordo Christmas draw through an official retailer to try and win a share of a massive jackpot.
Why it matters
It provides a regulated way for citizens to participate in gambling while ensuring the government manages the funds. It also supports social causes through authorised partnerships.
Easy to mix up
Do not confuse it with regional lotteries run by specific Spanish autonomous communities.
