Ligue Des Champions
In short
The premier European club football tournament featuring the top-ranked teams from across the continent. It determines the best club side in Europe each season.
In plain words
The best football clubs from different countries play against each other in a big competition. They win matches to move through stages until one team is crowned the champion.
A simple example
Real Madrid plays against Manchester City in a high-stakes match to earn points for the knockout rounds. The winner of the final trophy is the European champion.
Why it matters
It brings together the highest level of talent and wealth in world football. Winning this trophy is often considered more prestigious than winning a domestic league.
Easy to mix up
Do not confuse it with the UEFA Europa League, which is the second-tier competition for slightly lower-ranked clubs.
