Houthi
In short
The Houthis, officially known as Ansar Allah, are a Zaydi Shia Islamist political and paramilitary group in Yemen. They are a major force in the Yemeni civil war and receive support from Iran.
In plain words
They are a powerful group of fighters and politicians in Yemen. They follow a specific branch of Islam called Zaydism. They are part of a larger network of groups supported by Iran.
A simple example
The group uses missiles and drones to attack ships in the Red Sea to show their political power.
Why it matters
Their control over parts of Yemen and their attacks on shipping lanes affect global trade and security. They are a key part of the regional conflict involving Iran and its rivals.
Easy to mix up
Do not confuse them with the broader Yemeni government or other different Shia factions in the region.
