Gebaudereiniger
In short
A Gebaudereiniger is a professional building cleaner responsible for maintaining the hygiene and appearance of indoor and outdoor spaces. In Germany, employers in this sector have just proposed a 3.4 per cent wage increase during ongoing collective bargaining talks in Cologne.
In plain words
These workers clean offices, schools, and homes. They use tools like vacuum cleaners and special chemicals to remove dirt and stains. Their work keeps public and private buildings safe and tidy.
A simple example
A professional might clean a large carpet by mixing specific detergents and using industrial suction machines to remove deep stains.
Why it matters
Clean buildings are essential for public health, especially in schools and nurseries. The industry is also evolving with the use of cleaning robots and new technology.
Easy to mix up
Do not confuse the profession with a window cleaner, who focuses only on glass surfaces.
