Ford Trophy
In short
The Ford Trophy is the premier domestic one-day cricket competition in New Zealand. It features the country's major regional teams competing in limited-overs matches.
In plain words
It is a cricket tournament where teams play one game per side with a set number of overs. This format is faster than traditional multi-day cricket. It helps local players prepare for international matches.
A simple example
A team like Auckland Aces plays a single match against Canterbury, aiming to score more runs than their opponents within the allotted overs.
Why it matters
The tournament is vital for developing New Zealand's talent for the international stage. It provides professional experience in the List A format, which is essential for limited-overs specialists.
Easy to mix up
Do not confuse it with the Plunket Shield, which is New Zealand's first-class multi-day cricket competition.
