Fifa World Rankings Update Portugal
In short
Portugal has climbed two places to reach number five in the latest FIFA World Rankings released on 7 October 2026. They are currently the only team in the top ten to have moved up in position.
In plain words
Portugal is now one of the five best national football teams in the world. They overtook Brazil and Morocco to reach this spot despite recent uncertainty regarding Cristiano Ronaldo.
A simple example
In the previous ranking, Portugal was in seventh place, but they have now jumped ahead of other major teams to sit at number five.
Why it matters
The ranking shows that Portugal remains a dominant force in international football even during periods of squad turmoil. It also highlights a shift in power as traditional giants like Brazil have slipped down the list.
Easy to mix up
Do not confuse these world rankings with a specific tournament standing or a team's position in a domestic league.
