Exercito Brasileiro
In short
The Brazilian Army is the land-based branch of the Brazilian Armed Forces responsible for defending the nation's territory and maintaining internal law and order.
In plain words
It is the largest military force in South America. The army works under the Ministry of Defence to protect Brazil's borders and help during national emergencies. It also works alongside the Navy and Air Force.
A simple example
When there is a major flood or natural disaster in a Brazilian state, the army may deploy troops to deliver food and medical supplies to people in need.
Why it matters
It ensures national sovereignty and protects Brazil's vast land borders. It also plays a key role in supporting civil authorities during times of crisis.
Easy to mix up
Do not confuse it with the Military Police, which are state-level forces that act as auxiliaries to the army.
