Dfb Pokal
In short
The DFB-Pokal is the premier knockout football tournament in Germany, featuring sixty-four teams from the top three tiers of the German league system.
In plain words
It is a cup competition where teams play single matches to knock each other out. Smaller clubs get a chance to play against big professional teams. The winner earns a trophy and a spot in European football.
A simple example
A small team from the third division might play a match against Bayern Munich. If the small team wins, they move to the next round and Bayern Munich is out.
Why it matters
It is the second most prestigious club title in Germany after the Bundesliga. It provides a unique pathway for underdog teams to achieve glory and qualify for the Europa League.
Easy to mix up
Do not confuse it with the Bundesliga, which is a league format based on points rather than knockout matches.
