Demarchage Telephonique Interdit
In short
Since 11 August 2026, commercial telephone solicitation is prohibited by default in France unless the person has given explicit consent or has an existing contract. This law aims to stop unwanted spam calls and fraudulent sales tactics.
In plain words
Companies cannot call you to sell things unless you have already said it is okay. If they call without permission, they are breaking the law. New tools from providers like Orange now help identify which companies are calling you.
A simple example
An insurance company calls a person to offer a new policy without their prior agreement. Under the current rules, this is an illegal sales call.
Why it matters
Spam calls remain a massive problem, with tens of thousands of reports filed with authorities recently. New technology like Orange's 'Branded Call' helps users see the caller's name, making it harder for scammers to hide.
Easy to mix up
Do not confuse this with legitimate calls from companies you already have a contract with, which are still allowed.
