Delain
In short
Delain is a Dutch symphonic metal band founded in 2002 by keyboardist Martijn Westerholt.
In plain words
The band combines heavy metal music with orchestral sounds and melodic vocals. They are known for their dramatic songs and powerful female singers.
A simple example
A listener might hear heavy guitar riffs mixed with beautiful piano melodies and a large choir.
Why it matters
They are a key part of the symphonic metal genre. The band helped popularise the style through their successful albums and international tours.
Easy to mix up
Do not confuse them with Within Temptation, as the founder was previously a member of that band.
