Dazn Balon De Oro
In short
Harry Kane won the 2026 Ballon d'Or on 26 October, becoming the first English player to receive the honour in twenty-five years. Alexia Putellas also secured the top award for women's football during the ceremony in London.
In plain words
The Ballon d'Or is an annual award for the best football players in the world. In 2026, the English captain Harry Kane took home the men's trophy, while Unai Simón won the Yashin Trophy for best goalkeeper.
A simple example
After a season of high scoring, Harry Kane was voted the best player in the world at the London ceremony.
Why it matters
Kane's victory ended a long drought for English players winning the top individual prize. However, the result has caused controversy, with some former players questioning if he truly deserved the win.
Easy to mix up
Do not confuse the Ballon d'Or, which is for the best overall player, with the Yashin Trophy, which is specifically for goalkeepers.
