Cowboys
In short
Cowboys are people who herd or look after cattle on a ranch. They are often associated with the history of the American West.
In plain words
These workers spend their days riding horses to move large groups of cows. They make sure the animals stay healthy and do not get lost. It is a tough job that requires living outdoors.
A simple example
A cowboy might ride a horse across a dusty plain to gather stray calves. He then leads them back to a fenced area for safety.
Why it matters
They played a huge role in building the farming and meat industries. Their lifestyle also became a famous part of global film and literature.
Easy to mix up
Do not confuse them with rodeo performers, who compete in sports rather than working on farms.
