In short
The CDTV is a multimedia entertainment and video game console released by Commodore International in April 1991. It was designed to bridge the gap between a home computer and a dedicated gaming machine.
In plain words
It is a machine that plays games and multimedia discs. You can turn it into a full computer by adding extra parts. It was an early attempt to make one device for music, video, and play.
A simple example
A user could plug in a keyboard and mouse to use the CDTV as a basic personal computer for tasks beyond gaming.
Why it matters
It represents an early era of trying to combine different types of technology into one box. It showed the industry's first steps towards modern multimedia hubs.
Easy to mix up
Do not confuse it with the Commodore Amiga, which was a more powerful and successful computer line.
