Canadian Armed Forces
In short
The Canadian Armed Forces (CAF) are the unified military forces of Canada, comprising the Royal Canadian Navy, Canadian Army, Royal Canadian Air Force, and Canadian Special Operations Forces Command.
In plain words
They are the people responsible for protecting Canada's land, sea, and air. They work under the National Defence Act to defend the country and help during emergencies.
A simple example
If a major flood occurs in a Canadian province, the military might be sent in to provide transport and rescue services.
Why it matters
They ensure national security and support international peacekeeping missions. They also provide essential help during domestic natural disasters.
Easy to mix up
Do not confuse the Canadian Armed Forces with the Department of National Defence, which is the civilian government department that manages them.
