Bundeswehr
In short
The Bundeswehr are the unified armed forces of the Federal Republic of Germany. They consist of a military component and a civil component designed to protect the nation and support international security.
In plain words
It is the German military. It includes the army, navy, air force, and a special unit for cyber security. It also has a civil side to help with domestic tasks.
A simple example
If Germany needs to defend its airspace, the German Air and Space Force would be deployed. For digital threats, the Cyber and Information Domain Service would respond.
Why it matters
As Europe's largest economy, Germany's military strength is vital for continental stability. The Bundeswehr plays a key role in NATO and European defence operations.
Easy to mix up
Do not confuse the Bundeswehr with the Reichswehr or Wehrmacht, which were the military forces of earlier German regimes.
