Balon De Oro 2026
In short
The 2026 Ballon d'Or is the annual football award presented to the world's best player, with current discussions focusing on Khvicha Kvaratskhelia as a top contender.
In plain words
This trophy recognises the single best male footballer in the world for a specific year. It is decided by a vote from international journalists based on individual performance and team success.
A simple example
If a player scores many goals and wins the Champions League, they are likely to win this award.
Why it matters
It is considered the most prestigious individual honour in football. Winning it cements a player's legacy as one of the greatest of all time.
Easy to mix up
Do not confuse it with the Golden Boy award, which is specifically for the best young player under 21.
