Airbnb New Guest Chores Policy
In short
Starting 20 November 2026, Airbnb will prohibit hosts from requiring guests to perform major cleaning tasks like stripping beds, doing laundry, or washing dishes. The policy aims to distinguish between leaving a home tidy and performing actual housework.
In plain words
Hosts can no longer force guests to do heavy chores as part of their stay. You still need to leave the place reasonably neat, but you won't be required to handle deep cleaning tasks.
A simple example
A host can no longer make a rule that you must strip all bedsheets and put them in the laundry or take all the rubbish to an external bin.
Why it matters
The change has caused tension between travellers and hosts. While guests welcome the relief from chores, many hosts are threatening to raise cleaning fees or leave the platform entirely.
Easy to mix up
Do not confuse this with a total ban on cleaning fees; hosts can still charge for cleaning, they just cannot mandate specific manual labour from guests.
