2026 Nobel Prizes
In short
The 2026 Nobel Prizes have been awarded to eight individuals across five categories: Physics, Chemistry, Physiology or Medicine, Literature, and Peace. The Nobel Memorial Prize in Economic Sciences is scheduled to be announced later today.
In plain words
Every year, special prizes are given to people who have made huge discoveries or helped humanity. These awards recognise excellence in science, writing, and peace-making. They are decided by experts in Sweden and Norway.
A simple example
A scientist might win the Nobel Prize in Physics for discovering a new way to use light in computers.
Why it matters
These prizes are the most prestigious honours in the world. They bring global attention to important research and humanitarian efforts.
Easy to mix up
Do not confuse the Nobel Peace Prize, awarded in Norway, with the other prizes, which are awarded in Sweden.
