1 Liga
In short
The 1 Liga is the second-highest professional men's football division in Poland. It sits directly below the Ekstraklasa and is managed by the Polish Football Association.
In plain words
It is a professional football league where teams compete to get promoted to the top tier. The best teams move up to the Ekstraklasa, while the worst teams drop down to the II liga.
A simple example
If a club finishes at the top of the 1 Liga table, they earn a spot to play in the Polish Ekstraklasa next season.
Why it matters
It serves as the vital bridge between grassroots football and the elite level of the sport in Poland. It provides a competitive platform for clubs to grow their professional status and finances.
Easy to mix up
Do not confuse it with the Ekstraklasa, which is the top-tier league in Poland.
